Getting Started

Configure Logger to fit your needs

If you are starting fresh logbook, coming over from paper or other electronic logbook, you can start logging with Logger in couple of moments.

  1. Import

You can import flights from other supported electronic logbook, airline systems or CSV file. If you are coming from paper logbook, you can set opening totals or create one-line mock flights holding your previous experience.

Electronic Logbook

Logger can covert your flights including pilot, aircraft and type databases from most electronic pilot logbooks. The process is automated and takes couple of seconds. Logger provides short guide for each logbook on how to import the data.

You don't need PRO subscription to import your previous experience. This allows you to inspect all the imported data before committing to Logger. You can learn more on this in import flights section

Airline Importers

Logger supports over 120 airline roster systems and other 3rd party importers like RosterBuster and FC View. The import works similarly to electronic logbook import. Since airline importers usually provide much less data, Logger uses your settings to fill in the missing pieces from Logger settings (such as auto-fill, pilot position and SELF).

You don't need PRO subscription to import your previous experience. This allows you to inspect all the imported data before committing to Logger. You can learn more on this in import flights section

One-Line Previous Experience

If you are coming from paper logbook and don't want to re-create each flight entry, you can enter your prior experience as a sum.

If you want more granular entry of your prior experience you can create flight entry holding your previous experience summary. This can be either one entry for all your experience or one entry per aircraft type.

Example: if you have 200:00 total time on C172 with 100:00 as PIC, you can create a flight with 200:00 total time and 100:00 as PIC. You can then add C172 to the flight.

You can follow the above process for each aircraft type. This gives you more control over the previous experience and is recommended way to set opening totals.

Opening Totals

You also have option to add your previous experience in opening totals. Go to settings - logging - opening totals. This way you can set generic initial data from your previous logbook. It however does not allow you to set time per type (as in the previous method)

  • Use HH:mm or HHH format when setting up the opening totals

  • Opening totals will automatically adjust the PDF logbook exports and all the statistics

  1. Initial Setup

Every pilot has different logging needs. You can adapt Logger to suit yours in "Settings".

Pilot Settings

You can find pilot settings in "Settings" - "Pilot Settings". Pilot details, as well as your flight logs are kept private in your iCloud.

  • For Logger to function properly, as a minimum fill in the pilot name, crew code (if you have one) and position. This information is used by Logger during various imports to fill in missing information and to correctly assign your position. Logger also uses this information to create PDF export title page.

  • When you select your pilot position, Logger suggests default auto-fill and configure fields settings for your role. You can always override the suggested settings in Settings - Logging Settings

Auto-Fill

Auto-fill allows you to automate certain tasks when creating new entries or importing airline imports (where the function data is missing). Note: Auto-fill does not work for logbook imports.

  • Function Time: copies over block time to selected function time automatically for new entries, provided that those fields are also switched on in "Configure Fields". When utilising airline importers, Logger attempts to infer function times from the import field and type of operation. If this is not possible, the auto-fill setting will be used to populate the fields.

  • Multi-Crew: MCC time is normally filled automatically based on the aircraft type, regardless of the auto-fill setting. If you are importing from FC View or Roster Buster, use the auto-fill setting in this section to infer the MCC time

  • Take-offs and Landings: Logger will automatically log one take-off and one landing for sectors where you are pilot flying (PF). Day/Night Landing and Take-off is automatically inferred based on the times.

  • Flight Number Prefix: Set up flight number prefix for your flights (FR, DY, DY, etc.)

  • Flight Rules: Set up auto-fill flight rules for each new flight / airline import (IFR, VFR, VFR to IFR, IFR to VFR)

Configure Fields

Configure Fields section allows you to customise the flight detail view. You can toggle different fields on/off, change the colour of the fields and set up custom times/counts. Note: You can also access this section from flight detail toolbar menu.

  • Toggle: Switches the field on/off in flight detail view

  • Color Picker: Choose colour for the function time. PIC, Instructor, Dual, SIC, IFR and Night times also display in corresponding colour on the flight overview

Custom Times/Counts

Apart from the standard function times, you can set up up to 6 custom times, 2 session times and 4 custom counts.

  • Custom Times and Counts are tied to flight entry type

  • Custom Session Times are tied to simulator and other duty sessions

  • You can modify name and icon

Flight Overview
  • Future Flights Color: Set the colour of planed flights which are starting in the future

  • Scroll To: Set where you want the flight list to scroll to after restart. Top scrolls to the top of the list, today scrolls to today. Note: You will only see a difference when you have future flights in the flight list. The scroll to function only works once after restart

  • Main Airport Identifier: Select whether you want to display ICAO or IATA as primary identifier in flight overview (secondary identifier always shows below)

Default Duty Times

Logger uses default check in and check out times to suggest on duty and off duty times.

  • Check In: Set up start of duty time as minutes before scheduled departure time

  • Check Out: Set up end of duty time as minutes after on block time

  • Note: If scheduled departure time is missing, Logger will use actual departure time for suggestion and display "A" prefix to signal that actual time is used

  1. SELF

Last but not least, it is important to label one pilot in pilot database as SELF. This is important for multiple reasons, it will:

  • Eliminate you from the statistics

  • Allow for auto-fill of yourself to selected pilot position

  • Replace your pilot data from imports

To set one pilot as SELF go to Database - Pilots. Open one pilot and mark it as SELF. When you now back to pilot overview, you will see SELF on the top of the list.
